2nd Surgery Update

Posted by BaBa under: Special Days .

Here are a couple of photos from before surgery and after. The surgery went well, but was longer than planned. He had 1 hour planned and it took over 2. The fluid that had filled the wrist after the first surgery had been drained twice and would return within 12 hours swelling his wrist. His wrist was as large or larger than before the surgery. The fluid had now congealed inside the wrist to a mass like jello. This made it easier and harder. Easier in that the Surgeon could see the tiny veins that were feeding this mass. He cauterized many of these as he removed the mass which was sent to pathology. He made the incision on either side of the original incision and removed the skin where the first surgery was done and that incision. This will allow for better healing since the first incision had stretched with the swelling. This swelling also meant that he had plenty of skin to allow this to be done.

He awoke in recovery and they did not bring him to us while he just began to stir. By the time he got to us (which was still earlier than most patients), he was extremely upset. The does not come out of anesthesia well. So it took a good amount of time to get him settled. Once he got settled, we were able to go home. He was very tired and in pain unlike last time. The first surgery was easier on him than this one, but that might of been because he was more uncomfortable below the belt due to the circumcision being done at the same time.

He has a drain stitched in the wound with plastic tubing coming out of the cast and into a drainage bulb. We will have to be careful with this, but it should keep it from swelling like the previous surgery. The combination of the drain, cauterization of the tiny veins and the pressure of the cast should do the trick this time. Only time will tell. We will be going back to see him at my insistence next week.

We got home and he rested and we all crashed. MaMa snuck up on us and snapped a couple of photos of her guys resting. He could not get comfortable on the couch and crashed on the floor instead. We stayed quiet today and rested.
