Tae Kwon Do and Defense – BaBa’s Class

Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .

I have quietly started Tae Kwon Do and have been an infrequent participant. Part of this is the end of the term at both the high school and university. The other part was my Dad’s heart surgery and Thanksgiving. I continue to work at it and attend when classes when I can fit them into the schedule. Next semester offers no relief as I will have classes at the University 4 nights a week.

A friend of mine who is in much better shape had inspired me to give this a try when we visited in September. He wrote about his first sparing class and he said he felt overwhelmed. I can totally relate to this on a much deeper level. Last night I got paired with another white belt to work on a simple defense move. The belt color was all that we had in common. He was 20 years younger than I and had abs of steel. In other words, he was in really good shape and I have to move many steps to get to the just plain awful level. This technique is sorta of like a dance. This is another of my no talent areas. I did the best I could and he was understanding, but I still felt bad for him.

To sum it up, I understand Overwhelmed, but on a more fundamental level. Add a third item to a sequence and I am out of my element. I am working on my basic form and trying not to feel like class is the Battan Death March. Well, all I can say is that I will keep at it and eventually I hope that I will show improvement. I do have my sense of humor and can laugh at myself as I try to get to just plain awful

One Comment so far...
