Drainage
Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .
MaMa and Sheridan went back to the Doctor today. We had been keeping his wrist wrapped up with either an elastic bandage or a splint that the Doctor’s office put on last Friday. Thanks to Amy, we also had been measuring it each morning and evening in order to track whether it had grown or shrank at all. It had remained steady in size with no increase or decrease due to the antibiotic.
We were aware of some of the options that would now be tried. The Doctor could drain the wound. He could do this by making another incision. He might start an IV Antibiotic drip. There was a question whether these could be done in the office or would be done as a hospitalization. We were a little concerned about what could happen, but knew that something needed to be done since his wrist was now larger than before the surgery. I had to go teach today, so I would have to make calls to get updates on what was being done.
MaMa held our little guy in a bear hug and the doctor took out 13 cc (2 1/2 needles full of fluid). This was a first time event for the doctor as he said they had NEVER had a 3 year old allow them to do this. Of course, he was crying and upset. That was to be expected, but he did hold his hand still and allow them to complete the task. Once they were finished, it was decided to put him back in a cast. It was successful as his wrist was now flat as a pancake. The cast is to keep it from being bruised or swelling as it is now very tender.
MaMa took the little guy to the Zoo after his wrist was drained. He got to ride the carousel and train. He was tired and after the third train ride, he told MaMa he wanted to go home as he was tired. Not really what you expect from a three year old, but he will tell us when he is tired.

I am just amazed how brave kids can be.
Hopefully things will get better from here.

I am so sorry to hear he has been through so much! I hope by now he is much better with no other complications! Prayers and big hugs to that sweet boy!
