Houston, We have a Problem
Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life; Friends and Family .
We had the cast taken off on Tuesday. We had an adventure as we went to Alpharetta to get it done. While on the freeway, the car started riding really rough. We thought that it might be the road and so continue to our destination. We arrived and checked all of the tires. We had in the last month, one split on the inside and flatten after a rough ride. No visible signs of a problem and all were properly inflated.
We were seen in the office quickly and after convincing the technician that the saw machine was not needed, we got his cast taken off. The doctor looked at it and was pleased and so we were off after getting advice on his care. Back to the car and after we left, it was obvious that there was a problem. We were driving slowly and still the ride was rough. We quickly located the correct tire store and consulted with the tire guys. The tire was taken off and it looked like one of those 3D maps of mountains. It was nowhere near flat and on the surface with huge bumps in various places. The belts had separated inside and had caused these welts to appear. They did not have the correct tire, but put on a loaner tire while making arrangements for us to get it replaced at the same chain store on our side of town. A quick stop into the Asian market and we were on the way home.
The problem we faced was not the tire (easily fixed), but the wrist had started swelling. That night, we got his bath and removed the steri-strips. Wednesday, it looked worse. I called the Doctor’s office on Wednesday and we decided to wrap it in an ace elastic bandage. By Thursday, the wrist was larger than it had been before surgery. We decided to keep it wrapped and since we would see his general surgeon on Friday, we would ask her if it was not better.
Friday came and we went to the general surgeon. She was happy with her work in the circumcision. It was healing really well, but she took one look at his wrist and told us to go right now to see the orthopedic surgeon. She had one of her support staff call and she was asked 20 questions while going on the phone version of the goose chase. We secured an appointment and got a quick bite to eat before going.
They X-Rayed his wrist and found a hemetoma (?). An antibiotic was prescribed and they put the arm in a splint. We would be back next Wednesday for follow-up with the doctor and not the pa who was on duty. I really think that they will have to drain it next week. This is what one of the nurses indicated when she saw MaMa out in the hallway on the way to restroom.
