Twenty Six Years – A brief moment (less than a nano-second) in God’s time. However, for us it has been a wonderful first step toward a lifetime together. In these 26 years, we have overcome adversity and the trials that we have faced together while achieving many things that were beyond our wildest dreams.
26 things for 26 Years:
1. Watched the sun set or rise from the decks of many ships as we sailed the seas on our journeys past, present and future.
2. Lived in 12 different apartments or houses scattered through Florida and Georgia.
3. Was chosen as parents to our oldest son as we became parents and grandparents all at once.
4. Proudly handed my son his University diploma after he made one of the commencement speeches.
5. Welcomed another former student to the family as our daughter. Proudly watched her graduate and later walked our
daughter down the aisle as I gave her hand in marriage.
6. Cried when we saw the crib in our Nanjing Hotel Room and celebrated Gotcha Day when Sheridan was placed in our arms.
7. Celebrated many honors in my teaching career including that fabulous night with AJC as one of 12 statewide Honor Teachers.
8. Journeyed to the Giza Plateau to see the Giza Pyramids including the Great Pyramid of Khufu and his Solar Boat along with
the Great Sphinx.
9. Gazed in wonder at the massive statues of Ramses at Abu Simbel.
10. Marveled at the power of God to free the Hebrews from Egyptians who built the world’s largest religious site at Karnack.
11. Walked in the Valley of the Kings viewing the tombs of the Pharaohs and gazed at the treasures of King Tutankhamun in
the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
12. Eaten at McDonald’s all around the world including Casablanca and Beijing.
13. We have climbed Palatine Hill in Rome, walked in the Roman Coliseum and strolled the streets of Pompeii.
14. Seen the Saint Paul’s chains and gazed at Michael Angelo’s Moses and the beautiful Sistine Chapel.
15. Sailed to Capri where we visited the blue grotto and traveled to the top where the clouds kiss the mountains.
16. Gazed in wonder at the Book of Kells in Dublin and visited Saint Columba’s monastery home in Iona.
17. Spent quiet time in the holy place of St. Kevin at Glendalough Ireland while following in the footsteps of the Irish Monks who
preserved knowledge during the dark ages.
18. Marveled at the treasures of the British Museum including the Rosetta Stone (key to unlocking hieroglyphics), and the Elgin
Marbles.
19. Felt the ghostly presence of Jack the Ripper in the West End of London and walked in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes in
London followed by a visit to his museum in Baker Street.
20. Marveled at the English Crown Jewels in the Tower of London and the Scottish Crown Jewels in Edinburgh Castle.
21. Saw the stone of scone (stone of destiny) in Westminster Abbey and kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland.
22. Looked over the highlands of Scotland and followed Robert the Bruce, William Wallace and Bonnie Prince Charlie.
23. Seen God’s handiwork in the Mountains and vistas of Alaska.
24. Camped up the eastern seaboard as we visited the battle sites of the Civil War
25. Camped our way across the country form Miami to San Francisco and back.
26. Climbed the Great Wall and saw the Terra Cotta Warriors, the Forbidden City and the wonders of China.
Know that the best is yet to come.

Dear Michael and Kim,
What a beautiful story you have told, of your marriage and family and your journeys. I am blessed to have shared in your lives as Uncle Harold who was there as part of that joining together of Kim and Michael as husband and wife. I treasure the memory of my being a part of that beutiful ceremony in the Church chapel. Now it does not seem possible that twenty-six years have passed, but in those years I have seen you, Michael and Kim, invest yourselves in taking unto yourselves family and in giving of yourselves in reaching out to love and lift others.
Uncle Harold
