Surgery Update

Live so that when your children think of
fairness, caring and integrity,
they think of you.H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
Just a quick post. We are tired. He is doing well after a little rough spots earlier today. We had to get up at 3:30AM as he could have nothing liquid including Jello or Water after 4:00AM. We then were required to be at the hospital at 6:00AM. It was a little early for all of us. We made it on time and handled the admitting procedures. We then got to our room and awaited the pre-ops and visits by the surgeons. Soon it was time for the loopy medicine and he was off to surgery shortly before 8AM. Amy came to visit and stay with us. I cannot you what a comfort it is to have her available to be with you when your child is having medical work done. Thanks Amy.
We chatted and passed the time and rested waiting for the little guy to come back. Dr. Glasson came in first and the circumcision went well. He came back early from recovery so that he would not be screaming looking for us. He was really upset and not yet awake. He wanted the covering and IV off of his leg.
When he did awake, he was not a happy camper. It was like Gotcha day again as we wrestled our little alligator. He would arch his back and buck before attempting the death roll. It really does something to see your child in pain and know that you cannot “fix it.” When he did settle down a little, he told MaMa that he wanted her to OPEN. He wanted the cast opened. How fitting as OPEN was his first real word. Of course, we could not open. We got him some more pain meds to help settle him and then got some fluids down. He was told that if he drank then the nurse would take off the wrap on his leg.
Easy enough as he could understand this. When it came time for it to come off and she had completed the task, he then told her to open and held the arm out. Gotta love him trying to get out of the cast. Soon we got him dressed right as Dad and Mom got there. They stayed while we waited to be released. It was good to have them with us.
He told each of us I love you shortly before going off to sleep and even told MaMa to cuddle him after I walked him around the floor as he held onto my neck. We got discharged with a sleeping little guy and carried him in the Radio Flyer wagon to the car. We made the trip by the pharmacy and got him home. He rested quietly on the couch for two hours before having some food and water. He had a few more upsets, but by this evening was his old self. He still wants the cast off tomorrow as he said before going to bed.
It looks like June 3rd is the day for the removal of his cast. I am sure that Uncle Tymm will add a Yankee’s logo to it before it is removed.
There was a lot of material removed from the wrist and it has been sent to pathology to be biopsied. The surgeon did not see any malignancy there. We are confident that it will be fine when the results come back. Thank you all for the prayers for him today. He will continue to be on the mend for a few days.
