The Dreaded Phone Call

Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life; Friends and Family .

Friday was a day that was like so many other days except it was not like other days. I was at school and today was yearbook day, so classes were light and there was a student business expo. MaMa and Sheridan went to the pediatrician to check on his skin blemishes. They then came by school to see me and enjoy the business expo.

Right as they left, I headed back to my room to work on the To-Do list along with instructions for Monday when I would be absent. Before I got to the room, MaMa had called and my father was taken to the ER. Mom had called and said that he had experienced a stroke. This is when your mind starts racing as to what the implications of the news might be.

I started making arrangements to leave in an auto pilot mode while checking off what needed be done as I wandered the building on remote control. All arrangements complete, I then drove the truck home and we headed to the hospital. As MaMa drove, I made some calls and we decided what to do concerning Sheridan and the hospital trip.

We decided to take him with us. After a U-Turn to get some items from Mom and Dad’s following Mom’s call, we arrived at the hospital. We found Dad to be in good spirits and finally got the entire story of the day’s events. He had been wobbled and disorientated at exercise class and the EMT’s were called. They were transported to the hospital where they were doing tests. He had told us a few jokes and was able to squeeze MaMa’s hand with both of his. He did have no memory of how he got to the hospital and most of the morning’s events.

Thankfully Dad had been put on a regular dose of Comadin for his heart by his internist even though he had no symptoms. I am convinced that this helped save him from a devastating event. It was determined that he had a blood clot and that this is what caused his minor stroke.

Sheridan was good as gold. He played with his favorite playtoy sitting on the floor of the curtained cubicle of the ER. We left to get them home after my brother had arrived. I then went back to bring his sleep apnea machine, change of clothes and Chick-fil-A (he had not eaten all day due to his tests). I arrived back in time to see my brother, my oldest son, wife and grandkids. They left a little later and I got the pleasure of being there when the nurse came to draw blood. JEEZ.

I came home and we were both emotionally wrung out. However we were grateful to God for keeping Dad safe. We are also thankful for knowing that there are so nay that we could call if we had to have help. I cannot express how this gift of friendship and community brings a peace to you in your time of distress.

Thank you to all who prayed for my Dad. Prayer is a powerful expression of the desires of our soul to our creator. Prayer works and is always answered. In this case, the answer was the one we had hoped for when so many prayed on Friday.

Thanks again for your concerns, thoughts and prayers. Hug those you love and hold them close. You never know what might occur in the blink of an eye or the ringing of a phone.
