Dynamic Duo Day
Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .
Friday was a day for errands. MaMa also needed a break and I wanted to spend some time with just Sheridan. Thanks to being potty trained we could go out and see the world together. The morning was involved in getting organized and ready for our day. We would have stops at the Credit Union, Bank, Fax the tax extension information, Hubcap store and jewelry store. MaMa added Babies R US and prescribed a haircut for me.
We ended up leaving a little before noon. We did have to wait for Magoo to poop. Not to be crass, but he had not gone in about 2 days and if he did not go I would be riding solo. He knows when he is ready to go, but has not gotten used to the potty for this function. So he will tell you he needs a diaper and then he will go. This was accomplished and so we were ready to go.
First stop was the credit union, where they had a coin counter in the lobby. You guessed correctly that it had buttons and he was drawn to them like a moth to a porch light. We finished after two button pushing sessions and one sucker and were off to the bank. At the bank, we made a deposit, visited the safe deposit box to put in his domestication papers and Ga. birth certificates. We also faxed the tax info to the accountant in Miami and conference information to Colorado. He loves going to the bank as they have friendly people and money. He decided while we were doing our work that the manager needed quiet time and so shut the door to her office. This is too funny.
From the bank we went to the post office and then it was time to feed Magoo. I came up with a unique solution to this — visit Publix. At the grocery, I got a few slices of bologna and tore them into strips and placed them in soup cup. I also got some chips and placed them in another soup cup. He got the free cookie from the bakery and we were off. It was low cost meal, but it was also a meal that he liked and would have little possibility of making a mess with this combination.
We went next to find a hubcap. This story goes back to December when I lost one on an old bridge on the way to my sister’s house for the holidays. After that, every time he would see the car he would stop and point that it was broken and that BaBa needed to fix it. Fixing it was not hard, but required that I be able to make a trip during normal business hours. So this is one of the reasons that this task was saved for Spring Break. The other reason that it was saved for Spring Break is that I needed to be driving the car and not my truck to make this trip.
On the way to the hubcap place, he fell asleep as it was after he finished his lunch. We arrived with him asleep. I got him out of the car, in the store, completed the transaction and back in the car without more than a whimper. With him still asleep, we journeyed to our next stop — the family jeweler. I say the family jeweler as his Godfather works in this family business and his father is a childhood friend of my father. Sheridan’s Godfather also is father to a 2 year old as well.
Well, I got him out of the car and inside with only a slight eye rub. I was in the process of waking him and getting him to the bath when time ran out. So we quickly went to the bath and disrobed him. I then carried him back to the car for the spare clothing and got him dressed. After a few tears, all was well again. I had just survived my first toilet crisis and added another badge to my BaBa uniform.
Our full day together was not yet over as we dropped off the pearls for MaMa’s ear rings. From the jeweler’s, we continued to the Varsity for a bit for BaBa to eat. We left there and visited the Firestone store to get the all terrain stroller’s tires ready for the Renaissance Festival the next day. Off to Babies R Us and the purchase of a rain shield (just in case) for the all terrain stroller.
We arrived at Babies R Us and found the stroller with a little help. We then made another potty stop and this involved cleaning up again from another accident. He had a slight mishap with water and so I used the hand dryer to fix the problem. This of course adds time to a trip. Finally we were ready to leave. Our one last item to be done was to get BaBa’s haircut. He was going to hold my hand while I got my hair cut. What a great thing to say to your BaBa. To have your little one bravely stand by you while you faced the unsettling prospect of a haircut. He also has a long memory as we held his hand or sat with him for his first couple of haircuts. The haircut was accomplished with his supervision and we were off to get Sheridan and MaMa Dinner on the way home.
