When times are tough — the tough ones go shopping
Posted by BaBa under: Preparations; The Waiting Game .
Shopping – the universal cure for what ails you. Time to cure the inactivity and lack of progress while getting busy. So we went shopping. We need to finish Sheridan’s room. His shower head will come this week in the mail. I can then finish off his bath.
Back to shopping —
We went to Lowe’s and bought paint. We decided to get a deep blue to paint the two shelves in his room and also to use this to paint his headboard (found at a local garage sale). The paint is one shade deeper than the blinds that will be in the room and is a good accent to go with the golden tan walls. We also decided to paint the drawer fronts for his nightstands and dresser as the white fronts are showing their age. The dark blue will tie the drawer units to the headboard to the shelves. In other words, it will unify the design.
His room is a plain design. No theme rooms to outgrow or to fade out as a faded out of date fad.
Next stop comforter shopping. Off to Wally World, where we found two choices and Target where we found one contender. So we bought all three and will choose when the room is assembled. We spent a lot of time looking for drawer pulls. Nothing special at Home Depot, Lowes, Target or Wally World.
In fact the only decorated pulls were at Wally World and Target – over priced and too juvenile (see non-theme comment above). So off to Michael’s Arts and Crafts. In a moment of sheer inspiration, I decided to visit the unfinished wood section. I found wooden wheels for toy cars. $2.99 for 12. I also found very small flower pots. A tiny flower pot on the back of the wheel would make a drawer pull when glued together. We also found small painted wooden icons (choose a red school house and yellow school bus). These will glue on top of a t-nut that will thread through the wheel and flower pot and covered with the icon. So far $13 for 22 pulls. I probably can do all 22 for less than $20 and we will get just what we want – a unique conversation piece to decorate in a small way.
