Connecting
“When two people connect, when their beings intersect closely . . ., something is poured out of one and into the other that has the power to heal the soul of its deepest wounds and restore it to health. The one who receives experiences the joy of being healed. The one who gives knows the even greater joy of being used to heal. Something good is in the heart of each of God’s children that is more powerful than everything bad. It’s there, waiting to be released, work its magic. From John Ortberg – Everybody’s Normal Till You Get To Know Them.
I think that this can also be a yin/yang relationship where each person in the connection is at different times being the healer or being healed. For example in education, at times the student teaches the teacher as compared to the usual pattern where the teacher teaches the student.
Although yin and yang may appear to be opposites, they only exist by virtue of each other. Things are yin or yang only in relation to other things. i.e. dark and light; night and day; earth and heaven; front and back; down and up; cold and hot: teacher and student.
I am thankful to have observed this phenomenon first hand. It is amazing to watch healing take place and see the benefits of this process for both parties in a caring relationship. It is important to appreciate the little miracles we see when we take time to slow down and observe the wonder of the world we live in and those who surround us in this world.
The book is a fascinating look at Community and understanding why Man needs a community to thrive. I am sure that I will have more thoughts as I continue reading. Thanks Dan for letting me read this interesting book.

We read this book along with Dan and Susan when they were in our church community group, and really liked it. Ortberg is one of our favorite authors. We loved his notion of “carrying each other’s mats”, both caring for others and letting others care for us. What a beautiful world it would be if we were more open to living in community.
We love that our adoption group is really becoming more and more like community. We look forward to continuing to watch that grow.
