Austin Day 1
Posted by BaBa under: Travel .
I slept even more fitfully here on this trip than usual. I had the corner room in an old fashioned motor inn, rooms above the parking lot — the corner room that faced the lighted sign and the main street. Yes, noise and light. Given that I did not arrive and get settled until about 2:00am. You can get the picture.
I proceeded to wake up with the traffic and then get breakfast. I did a few computer chores and then headed for the 9 block walk to the conference. It is a really big show, one of the largest that I have been to in recent years. I walked the floor just taking in the exhibits. I will do the real work of carefully investigating each one tomorrow.
My presentation on rubrics went well. About 50 people or so attended and a few wandered out as it appeared too technical. I got a good reaction from those that stayed. I took the lead cards back down to the booth and stayed a few minutes to answer questions. I was going to go out to dinner with Anne Elizabeth tonight, but she had a VP for the company arrive today and had to cancel.
She recommended that I go to the place we had planned for dinner. I journeyed out to find Shady Grove and found a charming hamburger place with lots of odd decorations and a real Austin flair. The food was good and I had a Vanilla shake as a treat.
Tonight, I am going to grade some papers and do a little database work that I have not had time to work on recently. I want to add some new features to the grading databases and so I have to solve some problems to complete this task. It is nice to have some time to catch up and get organized, but I wish I were home.
I only have called home several times as I miss both MaMa and Sheridan. They both are helping Karen get ready for her and Bruce’s trip to China next week to get Micah. They went down to visit today and took Rainbow as well. From all reports Rainbow and Libby have been getting along well. We are all excited about their upcoming trip and are praying for their journey to be a forever family.
