Sheridan and Adoption Service

Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .

Today our church celebrated the adoption of Sheridan into our family. He will be baptized in January in the Mountains of North Georgia at a dear friend’s church where he serves as the priest. Father Scott was at our church for many years as a deacon until he completed his studies to become a priest.

The service was really nice. It is found in the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer and we used the 113th psalm as part of the celebration. This was one of the two psalms that I prayed each week during the journey and that I took comfort in during our time when our file was pulled in the review room in China. The other psalm was the 86th psalm. Both offered great comfort to me during the time of uncertainty.

We were asked to come to the front to do the celebration and Mr. Magoo was a little bit of a wiggle worm. I kept tight grasp of his hand as he moved back and forth. You see it was obvious that he wanted to run and play. When we finished the celebration, we were to light the advent candles this week. I got to hold Sheridan as he lit three of the candles on the advent wreath. He thought this was wonderful and fully enjoyed this part. Something about the fire captured his attention.

We worked today on not having him snack in church and were successful in this exercise today.

He loves getting to see others during the peace in the service and then going to get communion each Sunday. His smile was big and so it lights up many others who see him in his happiness. May this never change as he grows up.

After the service we took a few photos. I gave the new camera to others to take the shots after the service. I will have to work with the settings as they are not as good as I had hoped. We will try to re-shoot a few of this later this week.

Enjoy the photos —

What a great thing for your church to do – what a thing to celebrate, huh? We’re sorry we couldn’t make it but definitely enjoy the pics and recap – thanks for sharing!

I am so sorry we missed this! Please give our favorite boy a big hug and kiss….oh, and a sleeve of crackers!
