Sixty Days With Sheridan

Posted by MaMa under: Daily Life .

We’ve had Sheridan in our lives for 60 days. Two short months, but it feels like he has been with us all of our lives. He has fit perfectly into our family. He is ready to go, go, go all the time. He likes a schedule and our lives have always run on a very tight schedule. He loves to travel. In short, he LOVES life.

So many strides have been made. Sheridan no longer screams in the car seat. Night terrors have vanished (for the moment). As of Thursday, September 27, Sheridan has been sleeping through the night. He sleeps in his own room in a twin bed with rails. Yes, he still needs MaMa to be in the room while falling asleep, but that’s fine with me. He adores his BaBa and cries when BaBa leaves for work each morning. MaMa still cannot be far from sight, but he did go to Lowe’s and Home Depot with BaBa for a couple of hours and didn’t have a meltdown.

Sheridan is a champion at church. He has gone from just getting a blessing at communion time to taking both the wafer and the wine. He says ‘Amen’ at the appropriate times and knows about The Peace and holding hands during The Lord’s Prayer. He sits through an adult Sunday School class with MaMa and BaBa without causing any disruptions.

His vocabulary is growing every day. He is going to have a Southern accent as the word ‘ow’ has five syllables and ‘diaper’ has at least six. He knows at least 20 signs and uses them consistently.

Everything is not a bed of roses. Sheridan has major difficulty sharing with others. Food is still an issue as he thinks he will be hungry and no food will be available. MaMa is his only play toy. Meltdowns are still frequent, but short-lived and less severe. He is stubborn and hard-headed, but what two-year old isn’t?

Enjoy the slide show of our last few weeks.
