Yellow Daisy Festival

Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .

We are brave souls after yesterday’s encounter with the Tasmanian devil in the car on the way home. We are determined to continue with our plans and so to venture to Stone Mountain for the Yellow Daisy Festival that is held once a year at the park. MaMa drove the almost hour to the park while I blogged on the palm in the front seat. This is one way to catch up on the events from the weekend. Sheridan was quiet and even slipped into nap mode. He only got agitated when we arrived and had to wait in the slow traffic to get to the parking lot.

However, all in all a good start for the day. We got him out of the car and in the all terrain stroller and off we went. We arrived and found the picnic tables. We parked there and went off to the food vendors. We got him some chicken with broccoli and fried rice to share with MaMa. His demeanor changed quickly to the pleasant happy go lucky one as we fed him. MaMa did get a few bites in and I finished what I was writing. We were sitting right by the stage and he was enjoying the music. His head bobs back and forth in time with the tunes. It was time to see the crafts, but first he was due for a change.

We started out and bought a sofa table from a vendor. We would pick this up (unassembled) for transport home at the end of the day. Our next stop was at a hammock vendor. As you can see from the shots in the slide show, we both had a good time with this and left with a hammock.

After the hammock vendor, we came to the Childrens Area. One of the local churches was sponsoring free arts and crafts for the children to make and take. Sheridan and I made a beaded bracelet. He does quite well with stringing very small beads onto a leather cord! A typical two year old meltdown occured when we left this area, but soon Sheridan was back to his enchanting self.

We continued on and looked at all of the art and craft booths. We got a couple of adult size bibs for the spill prone parents (now we match our son at feeding time) from one vendor. We bought a couple of adoption calligraphy pieces for his room. We also bought a new car seat cover for him. Our last purchase of the day was some grits, waffle mix and porridge from a vendor that still grinds the flour locally. The waffles should be good and MaMa and Sheridan will enjoy the porridge and grits.

During our last circuit through the remaining vendors, Magoo went to sleep. MaMa laid back the stroller seat and he was peacefully sleeping. I went back and picked up the table and off we journeyed to the parking lot. We arrived and got loaded and woke up Magoo to get him in the car seat. We made it out of the park and then he transformed. We went an exit or two and stopped for something cold to drink. He got a milkshake. He does not like ice cream (at least not Vanilla) or milk, but likes milkshakes (Strawberry). He enjoyed part of this until it was time to go back into the car seat.

I drove a little further as our first stop was at a QT gas station and there were no eating places on that exit. We stopped again and got him out for some food. We also took our time there. He finished a quick snack while we had dinner. He also finished all of the milkshake with his meal. He got full and then started feeding MaMa french fries. It really was cute. He was taking my fries and then dipping them in ketchup and feeding her. So as he did this, I ate fries off of MaMa’s plate.
Off we went and journeyed home. Lessons learned today are to take your time and enjoy life while overcoming your difficulties. As older parents we just laugh at the problems while at a younger age we would have been angry. Patience comes with age and experience. Before we got home, we stopped at Wally World to tank up the car and get a couple of things. MaMa ran into a neighbor and she was enthralled by Sheridan. She also repeated what we are hearing from others that we now have a glow of happiness surrounding us. How true.
