Paulding Meadows with #1 Son and Grandson and Meeting Godfather’s Father

Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .

The weekend continues with our outing to the Arts and Crafts festival at Paulding Meadows. It is arts and crafts season and these are good ways to spend the weekends getting out and seeing new things as a family. This event was close to home and so it would be an easy outing.

Number one son and family were going to go with us, but at the last minute only the two guys went. We had a great time. It was so cool watching our grandson playing with our new much younger son. His is 13 while Sheridan is just over 2. There is a larger age difference in our two sons as this represents a second family for us. Over 3 decades separate the two of them, but it was great to see how Number One Son cares for and loves his new younger brother.

Number one son is even giving me parenting advice as to how to hold his brother, etc. This is a little ironic, but much appreciated as I will need his advice as time goes by. He is one of the been there done that (btdt) crowd. I do not have a membership to that club. Number one son came into our lives as a teenager and was self supporting so we have very limited experience with raising young children.

Our Grandson got a henna tattoo and a rubber-band rifle at the fair. He helped to feed his “uncle” (Sheridan) and the three guys played with his rubber-band rifle showing Sheridan how it worked. We went back to the booth and got Sheridan a rubber-band pistol and tried to teach him to make shooting noises. He is so funny when he mimics this in such a soft tone.
We sampled some of the many charity groups’ food offerings and then it was time to go. We had a wonderful day with Number one son and grandson and hope for many more outings with the entire crew as we try to show Sheridan about extended family and how special it is.

We quickly went home from the festival for a change of clothes for Sheridan and for MaMa to freshen up. We were going to see if Sheridan’s godfather was at work and drop by for a quick visit. I went to high school with him. His father and my father grew up together and have been life long friends. Sheridan’s Godfather (Eddie) works in the family’s jewelry business so we were also going to see his dad (Bob) as well.

We had a short visit with them as we arrived right before closing. Bob got out some polished rocks and Eddie, Bob and MaMa sat with Sheridan while he played with them. Bob commented that we had done really well with getting Sheridan. He is a keeper. Eddie’s son, Edison, who is the same age as Sheridan was not there, but there will be many opportunities for them to play in the future.

We left for home and no sooner than we had gotten on the road, Sheridan had morphed into the Tasmanian devil, his car seat alter ego. He does this while in the car seat because he hates to belted in. It does not happen all of the time, but it is a horrendous experience when the transformation occurs. Our happy go lucky child becomes a bellowing ball of flailing arms and legs with a banshee wail that could make the heartiest men shake in terror.

Sheridan as Taz in a Car Seat

We have not been able to prevent this transformation from happening and when it occurs we change plans. Instead of going home, we headed for the mall. Not that we needed anything, but we could get food there which is one strategy that might banish the Tasmanian devil from reappearing on the rest of the way home. Another effective strategy is to get him out of bondage and allow him to move around. So we feed him and walked him around and then made the trip home without further ado.
