It was a night that we looked forward to since we have been home. We would be getting together with the family who had mentored us in the adoption process for the first time since we had returned home with Sheridan and since they had returned home with Gianna.

We attended our First Friday dinner at the Chapman’s house on the day that our application was approved August of 2006. Cristy, Greg and Aria were at this get together. This is another red thread that was woven into the red cord that would unite us with our community of friends and eventually with Sheridan. As it turned out our mentors did not make it to another meeting until tonight. Life gets busy when you are adopting, raising a daughter and with two college sons.
However their presence at this meeting (August 2006) was no chance occurrence. As I have said one of the lessons that I have learned in the process is that God is active in our lives and that we must be quiet and look for the signs of his presence. This was one of those signs. We had a great conversation with Cristy that evening and she gave us her contact info and advice on how to get started. She offered to help with answers to our questions and we both took her up on that offer.

I can say with certainty that having met and come to know this family has made it possible for us to complete our family by bringing Sheridan home. They have a close knit family and you can easily sense their love for each other and for God. They are a joy for us to call friends. So tonight we celebrated his arrival and the arrival earlier this summer of their second daughter Gianna.
We had not seen each other for months, but we remain close. It is one of those connections that you are secure in knowing is there and would be hard perhaps for someone not in the adoption community to understand. Perhaps if you are in a good close knit church you have the same type of connection. We are blessed to have these types of relationships in our church and in our adoption community. It is the type of connection where if you are in need you can pick up a phone and within a few calls all of your needs would be met.

We had a great dinner catching up with each other and filling in the small details in our lives that we did not know from reading each other’s blogs. Blogs are a great tool for staying in touch with those you care about. Our conversation at dinner was like we had just seen each other. This is a true blessing and the warm feelings from dinner set the tone for the rest of the evening.
We are so thankful for them and their role in our lives. They helped make it possible for Sheridan to come home to us. We will continue to keep them in our prayers of thanksgiving and for healing as Gianna undergoes medical treatment
