Airport Trip, Nail Salon, One month Anniversary

Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .

Today marks the 1 month anniversary of when Sheridan was given to us in Nanjing. A day to celebrate and tomorrow we will do just that.

MaMa got to take Sheridan to the airport today in a surprise trip. The surprise was that I was supposed to pick up Grampy and Nana tonight at 10:30, but they caught an earlier flight. So MaMa got the airport call to pick them up. She postponed her ½ of her nail appointment and went to their house to pickup their car. She talked to Grampy on the phone and told him several times to keep the cell phone on so she could call him when she arrived. He said no several times as he did not want the battery to die and therefore not be able to be reached. He had charged the battery before they left. Parents are so funny. He will call and then if you don’t answer, you cannot call back since they both turn off their phones. However, if I forget mine or it is off, I will hear about not being accessible. The two ladies in the Nail Salon had a good chuckle over the call and MaMa’s insistence over keeping his cell phone on.

They had too much luggage to fit in our little Toyota and so she got their little bit bigger Toyota to fit in the luggage. This would require her to change the car seat from her car to theirs. It sounds like fun for them. MaMa said that it really was “fun” (dripping with sarcasm). It was hard to take the seat out of one car and install in another. During the process, the busy little engineer took everything (I was told everything) out of the back seat of the car while MaMa was busy with the seat installation.

MaMa arrived at the Airport and was going to park. Sheridan needed to get out and walk around, but no they wanted to have her circle around again because it was too long to walk to the lot. You can guess what happened. He melted down in the car. He was hungry and tired. Grampy wanted to eat at restaurant on our side of town, but MaMa prevailed. It would have been a very loud trip and a hard 30 to 45 minutes drive with a screaming little one. Grampy is thrilled with Magoo. Yes, that is what he calls him by his nickname Magoo. They just have not quite realized that Magoo has certain operating instructions. You must feed Magoo on a regular basis. Magoo does not nap easily. Magoo does not like to be in a car seat. Nana was talking to Magoo and trying to reason with him that he needed to be in a car seat and MaMa was right by him. She went on to explain to him that it was not doing him any good to cry. He is only 2, a bright 2, but just 2. You cannot reason with a crying 2 year old.

Grampy asked Kim if she had read any good books while they were gone. Now we all know that this is a funny question, but it was said with a straight face. She said I have read 4 to 5 pages a day. He was surprised. MaMa loves to read. She tried to explain Magoo rules about sleeping at night along with the ritual of getting him to sleep and putting him back to sleep when he wakes. He replied that she could read when he naps. She can do this, but it is better if she sleeps to get her energy up. They so love their new Grandson and will discover his operating instructions as we are discovering these. The owner’s manual we got was very scant as to details and is in Chinese.

Our day ended with a return trip to the nail salon to finish her nails (feet were done in the AM and now the fingers would be done). We topped this off with dinner out and home for an early bedtime for Magoo. Tomorrow will be a busy day with the construction beginning and dinner with friends before our First Friday group. All of these events we are looking forward to happening. Dinner is with our mentors in the adoption process and their two girls and then he will be the center of attention at our adoption community meeting. This is an event that we have looked so forward to as we have seen the joy other new families feel when they are welcomed home.

Yes, tomorrow will be another big day.
