REI #2 and Buford Highway (Asian Markets)
Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .
We ventured out again for a fresh start on Labor Day to go to Buford Highway and the Asian Markets. Nancy from our travel group had written that REI had Keens on sale. She wrote this after we had already been to visit one location on Saturday. So today, we decided to venture to the other location in Atlanta that is easy to reach. There is a third location, but it is a really long drive and I was not up for this excursion just on the chance we would find something good on sale. I took the surface streets and even though much has changed, we magically arrived at the store. We looked around and did not find the drink holder for the all terrain stroller that we had hoped to find. We ordered this and will pick it up later.
We did find Sheridan two pair of black Keen sandals. He got size 8 for now and size 9 for later. He still has some room in the 8’s. He now has shoes just like BaBa’s.
We have noticed that he tends to walk on his toes not on the balls of his feet. This may have been due to shoes that did not quite fit. The shoes he arrived in were too small. We were pleased with the Keens as they are well made and comfortable. He also seems to be more on the balls of his feet in these shoes.
Next stop was up Buford Highway to visit the Asian grocers. We were looking for the same types of snacks that he ate in China. We found the milk balls (from Korea) and the several types of Rice Crackers. MaMa commented that we did not have to journey half way around the world to experience a different culture as it was here on Buford Highway right at home. In one market we saw a bin of large turtles with a sign in English saying US for pets only. Ha. These were right next to the live bull frogs and it is obvious that neither are for pets. There was also every type of fish alive and dead in the markets along with an endless variety of teas and rice products.
When we found the Rice crackers and snacks, he lit up with the biggest smile and gleefully drop them behind in the buggy. He has come a long way in learning quickly that once in the buggy they will go home with him. The ride today went really well. No meltdowns. Different day yielded different results. We finished the day with a quite evening at home. We watched Andy Griffith show on DVD since we are without TV. I played with him again tonight and held him high in the air eliciting giggles and smiles. Oh, the joys of being 2.
