How to Survive the Waiting Game

Posted by MaMa under: The Waiting Game .

How to survive the waiting game, you ask? One of the best ways is to make cyber-friends. There are many adoption blogs to read and Yahoo! groups to join. Most of these people are in the same boat with you -either waiting for their child to come home or enjoying their child that they have adopted from China.

We have made many new cyber-friends through our Yahoo! groups. My favorite group is my DTC group. It is a relatively small group and you are able to get to know each other. At the moment, we all have secret buddies. We send gifts once a month – a mini-cyber shower. We received our first gift on Monday. Sheridan got some new dinner plates, a magnetic puzzle by LeapFrog and a bug box that is just the right size for a two year old. How cool!

We are also in the middle of a childrens’ book swap. I get to swap with KR, LL, and WM. We are waiting for our special needs children to come home and we all have boys! LL will be traveling in a couple of weeks to get her son – he is absolutely adorable.

We are also in the middle of a quilt square swap in order to collect fabric and wishes for a one hundred good wishes quilt (Bai Jia Bei). This is a Chinese tradition in which one collects one hundred pieces of fabric from one hundred people. Each person then adds a special wish for the child. It is said that the child who is wrapped in a quilt made with one hundred wishes will have a life of prosperity and happiness. When everything is completed, you have a beautiful quilt as well as a scrapbook containing all the wishes and a small fabric sample. As the child grows older, they will be able to match the fabric with the wish and know what that person hoped for him in his life.

Today is day 81 of the wait for our LOA. We really don’t expect to hear anything until the middle to end of May as CCAA is shut down next week for the Workers of the World Unite holiday. They won’t start things back up until May 7 or 8.

DH is in Omaha today and tomorrow speaking at a convention. He is having dinner tonight with a couple who is leaving next week to get their child from Nanjing SWI. They have been kind enough to be willing to take a couple of things to Sheridan. I went to Build A Bear yesterday and made his a puppy. Really cute. We are also sending a soft fleece blanket for him to have as well a photo album that DH put together.

While DH is out of town, I’m working on doing a deep clean of the house. What fun!? LOL
