Thanksgiving
Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .
This is the season for giving Thanks and this year more so than in past years. For this year we are giving thanks to God for our family and the blessings of family.
Dad had mitral valve heart surgery just 8 days before Thanksgiving. He had just begun to go experience the symptoms of heart failure this fall. He was experiencing shortness of breath, swelling in his ankles and the need for frequent naps.
The last month has involved a heart catheterization and then doctor appointments to interview surgeons and then pre-op appointments followed by the actual surgery. His surgeon used the DaVinci procedure featuring robotics. It was amazing to see him released from the hospital in 5 days and then resuming his life albeit at a slower pace. He is getting stronger and better day by day.
We spent my birthday – the day before Thanksgiving going to the doctor with Mom and Dad. He got a good checkup and then we went to have his ring resized at our family jeweler. Our jeweler is is a friend of Dad’s from high school and as it turns out his son is one of my best friends. We then went to the movies with my daughter-in-law and the grandkids along with MaMa and Sheridan. We had a nice dinner after seeing Megamind and quiet evening.
Thanksgiving was as I explained very special. We went to my sister’s house and enjoyed a great meal with them and our parents. Nothing special, but sometimes those family dinners really are the special days. This one is one of those that we will always remember. We are thankful that we could spend another day set aside to give thanks for all our family and our many blessings.
In all things give thanks. Thanks be to God.
