Vinegar and Bones
Posted by MaMa under: Daily Life .
Last Friday, Sheridan competed in his first science fair. He chose to do the old standby – what will happen when a bone is soaked in vinegar? He did the experiment, collected his data, did some research at the library and completed his tri-fold board. We role played as if we were judges as did some friends and Sheridan really knew his stuff…UNTIL…he got to the science fair! I was helping him set up his tri-fold board and his friends were asking about his experiment. He looked at me, at his tri-fold board and then announced that he couldn’t read a thing on it. Didn’t know what he had done, zip, nope, nada. All I could do was give him a kiss on the head, tell him to do the best he could when the judges asked their questions and be proud of his work.
Four hours pass and I’m back to pick up the little guy. He bounces out, says hi and then runs after one of his friends. But on the way by, he stopped just long enough to hand me a ribbon – a blue, first place ribbon! He had won first place out of all the kindergarten, first and second grade projects.
I was told by the judges that he did an outstanding job describing his experiment and answering their questions. Boy, was I one happy MaMa to know that his stage fright had passed and he had conquered the day.
