Zooventure
Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .
Today we ventured out to the Zoo on a Zooventure or expedition. Sheridan has looked forward to this all week as William, Maggie and their Mom were going to make the trip as well. They live in our neighborhood and William has been taking swimming lessons with Sheridan this summer. They also have gone to one VBS this summer and will go to their second one this coming week. Needless to say he has been excited all week about today’s adventure.
We are now into the oppressive heat of the summer and the misery index is fast approaching unbearable. Still we are going to brave the heat an go out to the zoo. We began picnic preparations last night and then arose early for breakfast and the fun of loading 2 additional car seat in the van. No real problem and soon we were on the road. We arrived at opening time and then began to visit and explore. We saw the giraffes and zebras after the elephants. We took time to see the wart hogs and meerkats.
Now it was time to feed the parakeets. All of the group enjoyed feeding the keets and I have some photos to post later. Next we got to meet a large milky owl from South Africa named Mandella. I got several good shots while he posed on the arm of his handler. Mandella would star in the bird show that we were going to see next. Owls hunt at night because they have less competition and have developed their hearing and vision. Owls are directly in competition with Hawks and so the Owls take the night shift while the Hawks work the day shift.
We left the bird show for keeper talk with the Elephant keeper. Everyone’s favorite lunch was indoors in the AC where we snacked out on our picnic. After lunch we took in the Gorillas, Pandas and many other animals. The trip finished off with a visit to the petting zoo and then a train ride for our guests while we got a head start on the playground. It was too hot to play for long outside, so we packed up and headed to an indoor play ground – IKEA. This was their first trip to IKEA and so we make a quick trip so the kids could play and C could have the IKEA experience.
We are now home after a great day of fun and enjoyment. I will update the post with some more photos from the camera as these are from iPhone.
