Don’t Leave Home Without It

Posted by BaBa under: Travel .

We were traveling to Minnesota for Thanksgiving. As usual we were rushing to get ready to leave. I was trying to get everything wrapped up at school. I updated the school website and then when the bell rang, I called to make the hotel reservations for the drive and set my wallet on my desk to have access to the credit card. I was trying to get home and packed while still on the phone. Yes, you can guess I left the wallet on the desk, but it gets better. I did not notice if missing for awhile. We got Rainbow to doggie camp and then even came back by the house and still I did not miss it. I could easily have recovered it then, but no. Mama wanted to drive at first so we hit the road later than we hoped and unaware of the problem.

Magoo needed to stop in Chattanooga for a restroom stop and then I discovered the problem. I could not find my wallet. Then the sinking feeling hit that the last time I had it was at school where I was making the hotel reservations. We discussed the options. Turn around and attempt to retrieve which meant that it would be Saturday at best to get it, but more likely Monday. If we had to leave on Monday, it would be a long trip for a short visit. Continuing on was also not without problems as it now meant we had one driver instead of two. There was also the larger problem — how to get on an Airplane with NO ID. We decided to keep going.

I called my boss and he was now in Pigeon Forge. He did give me the # for another AP. I called and left a message. We continued on to Nashville where we would stop for the night.

On Saturday, we traveled all day and I emailed my Principal before we got on the road. I knew he was working on Monday. We made it in to the top of Illinois right before going into to Davenport Iowa that night. We had a nice dinner at Ryans and slept hard. MaMa had driven all day and we still had another 6 hours to go on Sunday before arrival. We took at easy on the Sunday drive stopping at an outlet mall to get a chance to stretch our legs and to let Magoo out of the car for awhile.

Magoo traveled well during the trip. No complaints and no problems from him, but by Sunday he was ready to get to his sister’s house. We made it in to Minneapolis on Sunday in the afternoon and were glad to be off the road.

On Monday, I got my Principal on the phone and he contacted the school secretary and yes it was where I left it. She retrieved it and then dropped it by my bank as I my Dad could not get to the school before it closed. He then went up to the bank and took it across the parking lot to the UPS store. Then it was on the way.

It was delivered on Tuesday while we were out at the Mall of America. It was nice to get the wallet back and be able to make purchses and drive again.

So, don’t leave how without it.
