A New Twist on Being Frugal
Posted by MaMa under: Daily Life .
We do a lot around the house to try and be frugal. Using coupons, eating at home, shopping at consignment sales, Goodwill and thrift stores, recycling items into other uses, etc. have helped to stretch our dollars. For the next school year, BaBa is taking a big hit in salary and we are looking for even more ways to save a buck.
In this spirit, I must say that we do A LOT of laundry and good detergent is expensive. For a family of 3, it looks like I am doing laundry for Sherman’s army. I do at least two loads a day – each and every day. If I do get behind, it takes forever to get caught back up.
I have noticed on the frugal living websites that many, many people make their own laundry detergent. I bit the bullet and invested $15 dollars for ingredients that will create enough laundry detergent for 1,024 loads of laundry. It takes about 15 minutes to make enough detergent for 64 loads.
I just did my first load with the new detergent. Everything came out sparkling clean, odors had vanished and stains were gone (chocolate and sweet potatoes in this load). Looks like my investment will have a great return. Nice to be able to say that after the way our investment portfolios look 🙁
I think I’m going to like this new twist on frugal living.

Sure beats the other idea that you read about with reusable diapers and such. YUCK. I would also hate to have to wash that (let’s just stuff).

Thanks,
