Spring Refurbishing

Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .

We are still in the middle of spring refurbishing. The first photo shows the kitchen in the original state. I would have said spring cleaning, but it is so so much more than spring cleaning which is only one small part of this process. We began working on this during spring break when we did not take a trip, but started the process with our closet. I did a little work in the garage, but our most important task was getting the new ride for MaMa and Sheridan.

We did get by IKEA and found some cabinets at a really good price and so this became another step in the process. We tried our IKEA cabinet (originally bought for the kitchen) to allow us to have a pantry again. Last weekend, I bought lumber for the cabinets and this weekend finally assembled a table saw that I have had in the basement for over 2 years. Yes, unopened and unloved. Well, this was the weekend to get it ready to go. I cut the lumber today for the shelves, but there are no pictures as we are in the middle of the refurbishing.

Our plans include cabinets on the porch for school, redoing food storage in the laundry room and kitchen. Our first step occurred last weekend with step one of the kitchen redo. No, this is not a remodel from HGTV. It is a simple refurbishing involving better use of space with only 1 new cabinet and slide-outs in the cabinets.

The house that we originally built had a pantry, but we removed it several years ago when we added the tiled bar to the kitchen. We made do with the laundry room, but this really works very poorly and now that there are 3 of us, we need to make some changes.

We needed every inch of the space where the file cabinet was originally. The IKEA cabinet was not tall enough and not wide enough. This is not to mention that it also did not match the existing cabinet work and in fact stood out badly.

We found the stock cabinet at Lowe’s and opted for the finished version instead of the unfinished one. It was just the right style and coloring. I then made shelves last weekend and step one was completed.

One Comment so far...
