Terror at Night and BaBa

Magoo has had a bout of night terrors this week. It is due to some changes in his schedule and routine. This is when they do appear. MaMa got really sick this last weekend and went to the Doctor on Monday night. This is unusual as MaMa will rarely take herself to the Doctor. She felt rotten. Sheridan had to be on his own to play without MaMa as she just could not really function.

This is the type of change that brings upon his Night Terrors. We have not had one in a while, but this week would see them return several times. Monday, I went to his room and got him settled back to sleep. The next time it happened this week, I tried a new approach. I went up to his room and held him in the chair. I softly sang “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly”, his favorite song. He settled down and went back to sleep.

MaMa comforted last night after our Adoption Option meeting when he was up way past his bedtime.

I really wonder what is going on in his mind during these episodes. I have told him that he had a bad night on several occasions and he has told me that he does not remember. His exact words are No or Help Me (he says held me when he wants you to help him with an answer or to remember).

I want to just hold him and for him to know that whatever it was it is in the past. It is a WAS and not an IS. It is is the past and it is a part of him, but does not have to take hold of him. He does not have to be afraid as we are here. We are here for him.

It was good that I could finally comfort him at night. It has taken over a year for this to occur and was another stepping stone for all of us.
