(Cruise Day 3) Waving to Jamaica — An unexpected day at Sea

Posted by BaBa under: Travel .

Today we awoke a little before the 7:00am Sheridan alarm. Sheridan awakes almost every day at 7:00am. We both slept well despite the continued choppy seas. There is a cold front that we are in and it has produced choppy seas and a rockin rollin ship. We got an announcement at 7:30am that we would not be porting in Ocho Rios and would in fact skip the port of call. Not really what we wanted to hear as we had not been to Jamica before, but for saftey sake it was required to skip the port. Whitecaps on the sea and 30 to 35 knotts wind with gusts to 53 knotts. Not something that the Captain can deal with or any ship. The Carnival ship that was due to dock an hour later skipped the port. In fact ships due yesterday skipped the port. So we are off for a slow sail to Grand Cayman.

We took Sheridan to the Pelican club. He played and we enjoyed a little MaMa and BaBa time. We picked him for lunch and ate in the Horizons food court. He still has no idea that we are on a ship. We got stared at by some Chinese Gentlemen at lunch. These were dead on hard stares with no pretense of hiding them. Well, MaMa told Sheridan to go over and say Ni Hao. This strategy worked. He then went back and gave each a hug and the ice that was there melted. A few questions were asked and we answered including whether he was a grandchild and did we have any other children. The YeYe at the table asked the most questions, but he was very hard of hearing. I showed them Freddy and the grandchildren and that seemed to satisfy his questions.

In fact, he will get a little insistent at times that we need to get on the ship. In his mind, we went from one large building to another through a tunnel. Even though we have shown the ocean at the sail away party and then each night at dinner he sees the water through the dining room window. He still does not believe that we are on the ship and it did not help that we did not stop in Jamaica to go down the gang plank onto the shore. He will probably think that the tender is the cruise ship knowing him.

We then went to see Mama Mia inside in the theater. Magoo liked the movie and rocked in his chair because it had so much music for him to enjoy. I guess that he is going to like to see Broadway Musicals like BaBa.

We then went by the library on board to check out some books to read to Magoo. He enjoys being read to. While we did this, I tried out the new remote trigger on the camera. I wanted to get some pictures of all three of us instead of the usual pair shots and me nowhere to be seen. It works, but like most things I have to learn to fine tune it a little. One, I need to set it not on delay so that when I push the button it will fire. Next, I soon realized that I would need to carefully position my hard with the trigger in it so that it will not be so obvious in the photo.

I took a few shots before dinner reading and in the cabin and then we went out for some informal portraits on the deck and in the lounge. I did as good as the ship photographers would do and of course my pricing is so much more reasonable.
