Adoption Option is born

The creators and sponsors of our adoption community have sadly announced that they will no longer be sponsoring the community they created as First Fridays. We were saddened to learn this news last week and soon began with others to think about what would follow. Would this be the end of our community or would it be reborn in a new form?

The community is such an integral part of lives. We talked with Donna and began to think of what might come next and found that we needed to discuss this prospect with others. We had our first meeting last Friday of several families as we tried to discern what the next steps would be. We discussed how to meet and when to meet while enjoying each others friendship. The setting for this night was our house and with the help of many, we enjoyed a potluck dinner and an evening of reflection while keeping our eyes focused on the future. We began to discuss the next phase and agreed to continue to meet on the Initial Friday of each month and to rotate hosting among the group. The host would provide the main dish for the night and each family would bring a side dish. We would enjoy fellowship and have a topic for each meeting. The group plans to celebrate each month the Gotcha Day anniversaries (Forever Family Day) that occur that month. Plans were also discussed for airport welcoming parties to celebrate those new families as they return from their trips.

We spent the majority of our evening discussion talking about names and ideas for our core beliefs. We decided to create a Yahoo group for communication and a website to support the group. After all of the discussion and some reflection, we have begun our community under the name Adoption Option – International Families touched by Adoption.
