BaBa – Where is my commuter (computer)?

Posted by BaBa under: Daily Life .

Sheridan has been asking about his commuter. Where is it? School will start for him with MaMa when I start teaching next Monday. While back at school for planning this week, MaMa has been working with him. However, it starts for real when I return next Monday.

I have been busy getting moved into (installing and configuring software) on my new laptop. I have also been moving files, etc. from the older laptop. I had gotten his done when I ran into another problem. The old laptop had gone stupid as to recognizing new flash drives. It had 4 and 1 external hard drive that it knew and the rest — it wanted to find an install CD. This was not a major problem for me although we tried unsuccessfully to repair it last Christmas. The answer appeared to be to reformat the hard drive and go with a clean Windows installation. Well when you work with it all the time, that is not a good solution.

However, here was a Golden Opportunity to do just that. I had moved everything to the new computer and tried to install his MP3 player and Camera. No luck. So instead of giving up on the MP3 player and working around the camera driver, I sent the computer to the University for the IT folks to wipe it clean and re-install Windows.

It worked fine. We got it back today and it now has Sheridan’s Educational Programs on it. He is ready for school with MaMa (his teacher) on Monday. I still have work to do this weekend to prepare for both highschool and university students who both start next week.

Did I mention that he just about jumped out of his skin that his commuter was ready. He was so excited to have one of his very own. So many buttons that could be pushed. I got a very inexpensive portable mouse (small in size) and fits his little guy hands really well. We also got one of the silicone flexible keyboards (less than $10) at Staples. It is blue and spill resistant (not that he will have drink near the computer). It is also a bright blue in color. It looks cool and he can’t wait to really get to use it on Monday.

I will have to set him his own email account so that we can help him write friends. How cool for a 3 year old to have email and such cool tools.
